Killzone 2 - The Great Struggle

Iain Howe of Guerrilla Games has served up another important bit of story regarding the background of the Helghast in the Killzone series. The Early History of Our Great Struggle, is meant to be the Helghast version of how the big war started with the ISA. Lies, betrayal and corporate corruption? It would seem that Killzone has it all.

Who are the true aggressors in this war? All of these articles/stories puts all of what we thought we knew into question. The truth will be revealed very soon, so keep your eyes on Killzone.com for more back story info.

Parents More Concerned About Video Games, omg here we go again

In a recent article at what they play.com blog, a poll was taken by 3,000 respondents. Basically what it said was, parents are more concerned about video games, and what their kids are playing, then talking to their kids about drugs, and drinking.

Ok so tell me, when did the crazy train leave the station? Since when was it more important to talk to kids about video games, then talking to them about drugs, and drinking. The last time I checked, you don’t have to go to a drug dealer to get a game, and you don’t kill people after playing a game, then going for a drive. I just feel so sick about this, and what it means. I know parents today are lazy, and don’t want to do things with their kids (not all parents), but at a certain point I hoped it would stop.

I know that talking to your kids about the games they play is important, don’t get me wrong. I think that it will help them in the long run. But to say that it is more important then talking to your kids about drugs and drinking is fucking ridiculous. For the love of god or whatever deity you chose to worship, talk to your kids about drugs, and drinking. Those are way more important then video games. After you have had that talk then you can talk about the types of games that your kids play.

Vekta Today and the 10 Colonies

The Killzone universe has until this point revolved around the Alpha Centauri colonies of Vekta and Helghan, today we now know of nine other systems colonized. The news article on Killzone.com outlines the history of colonial exploration by the UCN. There are tales of massive failures and even a desperate turn to cannibalism from the first settlers of Procyon. All as well written by Iain “E0N” Howe, the other nine colonies are listed in the following systems: Altair, Epsilon Eridani, Beta Hydri, Delta Pavonis, Omicron Eridani, Epsilon Indi, Procyon, Groombridge 34, Lalande 21185 and Arcturus. All of which are apart of UCN network. The amount of colonies out there puts into perspective the Helghan conflict in UCN matters, that it is actually very small. As the release of Killzone 2 inches closer the amount of scale and backstory to the Killzone universe reveals itself to be more and more intriguing.

One organization called the UCN(United Colonial Nations), formed by various earth corporations helped to fund and colonize other worlds. The UCN also formed a defense force(think United Nations). Could they be the fabled third faction in the Killzone Universe and what role will they have in the ISA/Helghan wars?

Killzone 2 Multiplayer info trickles out

UPDATE: IMAGE REMOVED DUE TO SERVER STRAIN

As the E3 madness continues, it seems as if multiplayer info for Killzone 2 has been released. Come Feburary `09 we’ll be fragging out on Helghan, 32 player style! Above is footage taken from the PlayStation Store trailer which is now available for download!

“Killzone 2 Badge System:

Rather than adhere to a rigid character class system, Killzone 2’s online mode allows the player to mix abilities from different roles to better suit his / her preferred style of play. Abilities are represented by badges: the primary badge defines the main role of the player character, as well as its outward appearance, while the secondary badge serves as a complementary ability that enhances the main role.

Although their player characters look different, both Helghast and ISA factions have the same set of roles and badges to choose from. Here they are, from left to right:

Rifleman:
The default multiplayer character is assigned when no primary badge is selected. A secondary badge may still be added. Riflemen can start with most weapons, except for the specialized ones.
Engineer:
Primary badge ability: Sets up an automated turret which targets the enemy.
Secondary badge ability: Repairs ammunition dispensers, mounted guns, and automated turrets.
Medic:
Primary badge ability: Revives downed team mates.
Secondary badge ability: Throws a health pack, which can be picked up by other players.
Scout:
Primary badge ability: Uses a cloaking suit to become near-invisible.
Secondary badge ability: Tags all on-screen enemy players with a hidden marker, which broadcasts their coordinates to team mates.
Assault:
Primary badge ability: Dons heavy armour twice as strong as normal.
Secondary badge ability: Temporarily boosts running speed.
Tactician:
Primary badge ability: Throws a coloured smoke grenade, which serves as a spawn point.
Secondary badge ability: Requests air support from a sentry bot which targets the enemy.
Saboteur:
Primary badge ability: Assumes the disguise of a randomly selected enemy player.
Secondary badge ability: Throws a sticky, proximity-activated C-4 charge.”
